Quarterdeck Watch Standing
Objective
· After completing this training, the learner will be able to perform the duties required as a quarterdeck watch stander to include the following:
o Inspect all packages / materials carried on / off the ship for unauthorized / illegal items IAW ship’s procedures.
o Ensure positive identification / authorization of personnel entering / leaving the ship.
o Inspect quarterdeck watch standers
o
Call away security alert

guide your discussion with the trainees concerning the objective. Now demonstrate to the trainees how to

Discuss the proper military honors and
ceremonies for boarding a naval vessel.
·
Discuss the proper military honors and
ceremonies for greeting visitors onboard a naval vessel.
·
Discuss the proper method for validating the
identity of persons wishing to board a naval vessel.

Discuss the different kinds of identification
that may be presented to watch standers.
·
Discuss the requirement for security inspections
of packages and bags being brought onboard naval vessels.
·
Using the U.S. Navy Uniform regulations,
demonstrate to the trainees examples of acceptable uniform standards. Ensure that the trainees can distinguish
between the various uniforms. Discuss
what constitutes proper grooming standards for members of the U.S. Navy.

Discuss the proper procedures for inspecting
quarterdeck watch standers.
·
Discuss the chain of command as it relates to
the quarterdeck watch standers. Discuss
the roles of the following personnel:

Commanding Officer
o
Command Duty Officer (CDO)
o
Officer of the Deck (OOD)

Petty Officer of the Watch (POOW)

Messenger of the Watch (MOOW)
o
Duty Master at Arms (DMAA)

Discuss the procedures when there is a suspected
security incident.

Discuss the procedures for initiating a security
alert. Discuss who is involved when
called away.

Demonstration Points

Demonstrate the proper procedure for saluting.

Practice Points
·
Have trainees test their knowledge of the
material covered by taking the OOD Course pre-test and completing the computer
based training module.

Conduct role play exercises for the following
scenarios:
o
Boarding a naval vessel.
o
Greeting and receiving visitors at the
quarterdeck.
o
Inspecting ID cards on the quarterdeck.
o
Inspection of bags and other personal effects.
